CAC Registration

Your company name is reserved — here's what '60 days' means

When the CAC approves your proposed company name, it enters a reservation period of exactly 60 days. If you don't complete your company registration within that window, the reservation lapses — and someone else could claim the name. Here's exactly what happens and how to use those 60 days well.

When does the 60-day window start?

The clock starts from the date CAC approves your name reservation — not from when you submitted the application. Approval typically takes 1–3 working days after submission. Your lawyer will notify you the moment the name is confirmed available and reserved.

What does 'reserved' actually mean?

While your name is reserved, no other company can register using that exact name at the CAC. It gives you a protected window to gather your documents, finalise your directors and shareholders, and complete the full incorporation filing.

The reservation does not mean your company is registered. It's purely a name hold — the company doesn't legally exist yet.

What happens if the 60 days run out?

If you don't complete registration before the 60-day window closes, the reservation lapses. The name goes back into the open pool, and you'd need to:

Tip: Don't wait until day 50 to start gathering your documents. Your lawyer can begin collecting director and shareholder details the same day your name is reserved.

What if your name gets rejected?

CAC rejects names that are too similar to existing registered companies, too generic, or that contain restricted words (like "Federal", "National", "Bank"). If your name is rejected, you'll receive a reason and can try again with a different name — paying the check fee each time.

This is why Adaka allows you to check up to 3 names in a single submission: you can list alternatives in order of preference, and if your first choice is unavailable, your second or third might be approved immediately.

Can you check whether your reservation is still active?

Yes — your lawyer can check the CAC portal at any time to confirm the status of your reservation. If you're working with Adaka, your lawyer will update the case milestone when the name is confirmed and again when the 60-day window is close to expiry.
